ALOHA Bingo

In the Hawaiian language, aloha can mean hello or goodbye. So, whether you are coming or going, these cards are perfect for celebrating our Hawaiian Theme of the Month.

Printing the Cards

Begin by printing up to 40 different cards. For reusable cards, we suggest printing on heavy card stock paper. Print on regular paper for disposable cards (where the players use marking pens or bingo daubers to mark their cards).

These and other bingo cards can also be ordered from
Activity Basket.com

The B-I-N-G-O across the top of each card has been replaced with A-L-O-H-A and there is a pineapple in the center "free space." Also, there is a small hibiscus flower (state flower of Hawaii) behind one of the numbered squares on each card.

Playing the Game

Using a standard bingo set-up, the caller selects a ball and announces the letter and number - substituting letters. (Tip: Make yourself a cheat sheet like the one below for easy reference.)

A
L
O
H
A
B
I
N
G

Note: Before the game begins, point out to the players that they will need to scan down two columns when "A" numbers are called. However, lower numbers (1-15) will be in the first column (just like in regular bingo) and higher numbers (61-75) will be in the last column.

Play straight-line bingo, coverall, or other special games.

Lucky Hibiscus Flower

As mentioned above, each card has a small hibiscus flower behind one of the numbers. There are several ways it can be used:

  • The first person to cover the square wins the game.
  • The winners get an extra or special prize if their bingo includes the square with the flower.
  • The square can be an extra "free space."
  • Ask all of the players to write their lucky flower number (A-12, O-33, etc.) on a piece of paper. Draw a winner at the end of the game.
Don't Say Bingo!

Instead of "Bingo," ask the players to shout "Aloha!" when they think they have a winning card. If the players forget and shout "Bingo!" they lose.

For Markers

Use your regular bingo markers or print a sheet of HIBISCUS FLOWERS and/or PINEAPPLES for each player. Cut them out along the solid lines and your markers are ready to go. For heavier markers, print on heavyweight paper (110 lb.) or card stock. Alternatively, glue the sheets to a piece of poster board (spray glue works best). For thicker markers that are easier to pick up, glue the sheets to foam board or thick cardboard and then cut them out with a craft knife.

For prizes, pass out leis, fresh bananas, dried fruit snacks, or small packages of macadamia nuts.
