Fitness expert Nikki Carrion provides the tools you need to create a quality exercise program in this 7 disc training series. You can single-handedly create a higher level of functional fitness in your clientele, empowering them to become stronger, more flexible, and more physically and mentally balanced. Instructions are straightforward enough that those with no prior fitness training can quickly become well versed in safe and effective exercise techniques. This module was designed with the activity professional (AP) in mind by an author with 25+ years experience in the field of fitness and a Master’s in Community Health Education with an emphasis in gerontology. The information found herein is clear and concise and presented in a factual manner. Each disk is 30-40 minutes in length and addresses various areas of fitness specific to older adults. Disc One: Introduction Get acquainted with Nikki Carrion as she explains what to expect from the training series and how to use the training set with optimum results. Disc Two: Cardio Clips This interactive DVD discusses proper music selection (beats-per-minute, etc), and assists the AP by demonstrating and breaking down several cardio clips to be used in class. This with the idea of making cardio fun instead of frightful! Disc Three: Muscular Strength & Endurance Activity professionals will find it necessary to fully interact to see the full picture of the body’s primary muscles, how they work, and how to safely strengthen those muscles. Demonstration is provided using only the force of one’s body, hand weights and/or resistance bands. Disc Four: Flexibility & Range-of-Motion An instructional DVD that uses an interactive approach to show how simply any AP can help his or her clientele improve flexibility in-and-around major joints. This is essential to increase flexibility, leading to improved mobility. Disc Five: Balance & Mobility Many of the concepts in this segment come from the Balance Clinic at Cal State, Fullerton where research has proven that practice leads to improvement. After actively participating, activity professionals will be able to help their participants understand the difference between static and dynamic balance, what muscles in the body are most important for balance and how to develop them, what it looks like to walk with a proper gait for better balance, and much more! Disc Six: Mind, Body & Breath This DVD is an overview of the importance of good balance between mind, body, and breath and demonstrates some yoga, pilates and tai chi-type basics, explaining how mind and body disciplines serve to achieve that balance. Without good balance, complications such as high blood pressure, depression, anxiety, sleeplessness, and other common problems are more likely to persist. Disc Seven: Master Handbook & Handout Templates An 80+ page handbook detailing the techniques introduced in the training series with 24 supplementary classroom handouts. An excellent reference resource for activity professionals wishing to create new and exciting routines to introduce to their fitness programming!
