I have a question about doing these. I just recently started back into Activities again. When I was in before, I was doing morning announcements. I have heard that they are wanting to do away with making so many announcements due to noise level. Have you heard this, and are any of you still doing these? If so, Do you care to share what you are announcing? I don't want to overdue or underdue with them. Thanks in advance for any help. |

We went to a new meal plan about 6 years ago so that residents can sleep in as long as they want or get up as early as they want. We offer a continental breakfast between 6;30 and 9 a.m. and Brunch/ lunch at 10:30 thru 12:30 (anyway they eat all day long). Since we let residents sleep in, we did away with the announcements pretty much altogether. They figured you don't make announcements in your own home and this is their home, so why make announcements. We now use the p a system only for an emergency. The nurses stations all have communication books. Any announcements that the residents need to know, we put in the communication book and the care givers let the residents know. |

We do not have a PA system so anouncements are made on the table each day, for the activity of the day and the next day. It works great and adds to the conversation during the meal. I use a lucite frame that can be cleaned each day. The frame is about 5 x 7. I copy 2 days of the calendar and put it in the frame. |

We offer continental breakfasts and residents come and go for hours so single announcements do not work well at all. Each resident has a calendar in their room showing the months activities. Like many of us in our homes, we have a decorative bulletin/blackboard where daily activity times and locations are posted. Every employee is asked to take time to remind residents about the daily activities offered. |

In our facility we annouce almost every activity thruough out the day. What is the state survey's opinion on loudspeaker announcemnets?? I agree, I don't think we should, its is supposed to be a home. I am just wondering how the state surveyors feel. Please respond. |

I have never had any problems with state in not announcing anything. Each resident gets a calender in the room each month and there is a very large calender in the activity area. We also put special functions in the communication book for the caregives. The caregivers announce to our residents what is going on that day and the activity staff personally tells the residents of special happenings or interests that we know would be interested. Our major PA system is mostly used for emergencies only. We use to announce the major events but haven't done that in about 8 or so years. As long as residents are informed, state doesn't care if it is not announced over the pa. |
