I need some ideas on what to do for our lower functioning residents for pre-meal activities. We do music, have done hand massage, just looking for some other ideas for variety. Something simple that can be done in about 20 min with little clean up. |

We don't do this before a meal, but we have an activity cart that we use right after lunch some days. On the cart we have a bunch of sensory activities, such as the ones on this website: http://www.adultsensoryactivities.com/ We also have puzzles and coloring pages for any cognitively in-tact residents that come to the group. Some of the stuff on the home page here is really pricey, but if you click on the tabs, there are plenty of inexpensive items that are only about $10. |

We also use a Beamz instrument, which I forgot to mention. It's easy to set up and break down. It allows residents to make music without playing an instrument, and by using laser rays to create sound. It's also very sanitary, since they don't actually have to touch anything. The system is a little pricey, and we had to buy a laptop to hook it up to, but if you have one you can bring from home, that works too. |
