We do a variety of exercise programs, and every day try to do some sort of sport game.  Some of them are things we bought through S&S (soccer, basketball, ball toss), and some are things we made up by ourselves, like a game called Rainbow Toss. For Rainbow Toss, we spread out the parachute, and give the residents three black bean bags. Each color on the parachute is worth a certain number of points, and they have to throw their bean bags onto the parachute to get points. HOWEVER, they can only have one bean bag land in each color section AND bean bags that straddle the line don't count.  They love sport games, because they're slightly competative and a lot of fun. That might be a good way to get them into it.

As for volunteers, I don't have a letter anymore, I think mine got misplaced in my move from facility to facility recently. However, I do have a good volunteer application. If you'd like it, just email me. I also have a volunteer orientation booklet, and I have an internship application.  My email is aurora.crew@waverlyheightsltd.org.

I started a "walk & roll" club for our residents.  They either walked or rolled laps(or we pushed them part of the way) around the building each day and then we would document how many times they went around on a chart in the activity room. Each lap equaled so many miles.  We would pick a destination that they wanted to go and determined the number of miles to get there. For example: they wanted to go to myrtle beach.- We figured up how many miles to walk there and that was their goal for walking "miles" around facility. Once all particiapnats "walked to the beach", we had a beach party. We also pen paled with a facility at the beach who sent emails encouragin us to hurry and get there .lol was alot of fun

Did you ever try to use scarves or make wood rods with ribbon attached to them.

Have you ever tried Balloon toss?

We made balloon paddles out of a wire hanger and knee high hose, sponge and electrical tape. If anyone wants the directions just let me know. then we give a paddle to each resident in the circle and start throwing the balloon to each resident. Put on some update rock and roll music from the 60's or 70's etc, and start havin g fun. It is great exercise and the residents really love this!
