I would like to have some imput of showing Movies in the facility (DVD's). Does anyone know of the legalities? Our IT guy says we do not have a covered license to show them. Any suggestions?

I have seen this question before-I show them all the time - no license Your not charging a fee and allowing the public in are you?  Just like watching them at home as far as I am concerned

Yeah, as long as you don't charge admission, you can most certainly show movies. We show them all the time.

I work at a CCRC that has 11 campuses across the country, you should have a licence to show the movies.  Im not sure the legistics behind it but all I know is that once a year I get an email with a copy of the licence that covers all of our campuses.  its something crazy like 100 dollars per campus for the year.  I have never heard of any issues coming up but I think it has to do with the amount of people who live at the place and even though it is there home you are showing it in common areas where anyone could watch it.  (if you only showed movies in their rooms/apartments then that would be another story.

Some of us use netflix, I seriously doubt an old folks home is going to get tagged for not having the proper papers to show movies.  It's a service we pay for for our home, our nursing home.

We discussed the necessity and legality of this, and then landed on just getting this license to cover ourselves.

Yes, You must purchase an annual umbrella liscense. You pay per viewer per year. For our approximately 60 bed AL I think it was around $250.00

If I can remember, I will forward the information tomorrow.  I have heard of Disney being especially bad about sueing for unauthorized use of their viedos.
