Dear Activity Director: Our home has implemented a unique program involving a traveling beaver. This program is called Around the World. The Canadian national animal is a beaver. The residents at Victoria Manor felt a beaver would best represent our home and therefore we have purchased “Victoria”, a stuffed animal. Victoria has been sent to other long term care homes to gather information about the home and the community to bring back to the residents at Victoria Manor. We keep track of her travels on a map of the world. The purpose of this program it to create friendships, increase knowledge of other parts of the world including their culture, communities, religion and anything else you choose to share with us. The residents enjoy learning about other home’s programs and interests. We ask that when Victoria is sent back to Victoria Manor, you include information about your home, a program calendar, and any other information unique to your community. We always insure and track Victoria’s whereabouts, to ensure she makes it back to us safely. If you are interested in participating in this program, please contact Holly Speedie at 705-324-3558 extension 1427 or at hspeedie@city.kawarthalakes.on.ca. Thank you,
Holly Speedie Manager of Resident and Family Services |

That is the best idea in the world! We actually have a local radio station that does something similar. I never thought to do it for our facility, but you have inspired me! I can't wait to present this to my residents! Thanks for sharing |

This is a fantastic idea I'm going to print this out and check with my residents at our next council meeting. We are from MT, I'm going to also ask if they would maybe like to start one as well. We will see what they say. Thanks for sharing this wonderful idea. Susan |
