Just wondered if anyone had any good ideas to share about how to celebrate National Nurses Week coming up in May.  I would like to give our nurses something to show appreciation with-something cheaper (of course) that they will be able to use or enjoy...I feel like "We <3  Our Nurses" shirts, pens, waterbottles are a little generic..any ideas? Thanks!

I don't have anything to do with the planning of nurses or cna week. The DON and the staff developer do that. I'll help out with the implementation, but not the planning.

At my facility the DON plans Nurses week but I wanted something that my residents could do to honor the nurses.  I bought a large candy bar from a candy store and the residents will wrap a piece of scrapbooking paper around each and put a tag with each nurses name on one then tie on a bow and a tag that says Happy Nurses Week from the residents of.... for each nurse.  The residents are excited about the project.

My residents had fun putting together a Thank You gift for our Nurses.  I bought disposible Coffee Travel Mugs, instant coffee packets, creamers, sugar packets, shortbread cookies & chocolates (some stuff I got from Dietary). We filled ea cup and added a note I had printed out "Thanks a 'latte' for all you do!".  The Residents enjoyed filling the cups, I found a job discription for Nurses in 1887 that I read, alot of the residents had nurses in their families, so there was alot of discussion about nurses and how their job discription has changed.

We set up a special lunch area for them with flowers or a plant and we also try to take up a collection for them to go have a manicure/pedicure or massage. We also gather the residents up and do a big photo of them and frame it and write residents names on back and present it as a Thanks for all you do for us gift - which our nurses say that they love that memory more than they like getting cards.

We have great success with making banners for all occasions - either using a roll of butcher paper or newsprint paper, or several sheets of 11x17 paper. We'll ask the residents to come up with a message ('what do you think our sign should say that celebrates and honors our nursing staff?') and then whomever has the best block handwriting will write a block letter message and we'll have all the residents (who love to show up to help with these projects) color with marking pens or pastels. Then we take the message to ALL the residents and have them sign their names and a personal message, if they want to add anything.

The staff love the sign of appreciation, the residents have pride in doing something special, and it's an INCREDIBLY CHEAP activity!!!!
