What is the winter temp. do most Activity Directors say to cold to do bus rides? I am a Director and drive the bus. I feel it shoud be at least 50 degrees most all my residents walk. Does anyone do outing in the 40 degrees? |

Im in Connecticut and we play it by ear when it comes to going out. I take the residents out in the cold as long as its not snowing or icy. I have extra hats and gloves for everyone (if needed). Since we are just going from our building to the bus and from the bus to a restaurant it usually isnt a big deal. If we ever have a snow storm again we usually do not go out for a couple of days until everything is cleaned up. |

Living in MI we go out when it's 40 degrees because that feels like summer! :) My cut off is 20 degrees and below and I don't usually take them out if it's snowing. I don't like to take them on snow covered side walsk. |

We use the under 25 or over 95 rule for cancelling facility outings of course snow or ice, humidity, and wind chill factors into the decision. We also use a van driven by a transport co. |

I'm in OH. and we use to use 32 degrees as are cut off point, but that was when we had an old and unreliable bus. We have since gotten a new bus and now kind of use it as judgement call, temp, wind chill, environmental conditions, etc. We also drive the bus so whatever we feel comfortable with. Most are are residents are in w/c's so we don't have to worry slipping. Also we allow the residents to choose some don't like to go out in the cold and others dont mind it. |

I hear the folks in FL don't even like to go out in the rain (or at least at 2 facilities whom I've talked with) Snow would def make them want to stay indoors. |

Typically it rains for a short period then stops. We have an overhang we load/unload under and it's usually gone by the time we get to our destination. Plus, you have to remember most "Floridians" aren't really Floridians. The vast majority of the people in my facility are from up north and moved down here at some point in their lives. High of 79 today....anyone wanna come visit?

I keep outings close to home in winter months and see what mother nature comes up with. No snow, ice or cold winds..otherwise we go. |
