I need some ideas for bingo prizes to give to my residents? We are a small adult home so we do not have a store for them to buy things out of. I have received some donations like teddy bears and jewelry. Can someone give me more ideas of what I can give out to my residents for bingo prizes? 90% of my residents have dementia/alzheimers. Thanks so much!! |

For my folks with moderate/late stage dementia, I just discontinued offering prizes. I found it to be too cluttering to the environment, presents infection control issues and sometimes age inappropriate to give stuffed animals. Candy/nuts were also difficult, as you have to account for dietary restrictions - and I would only give that if the resident consumed it there and not take back to the room to forget about. INSTEAD of prizes, we give the winner a round of applause (good sense of accomplishment) and I recycle prize money into more events with paid musicians. |

We do Arbor Village Bucks (Name of our facility) We do have similar residents and not enough room for a store but we set it up weekly and let them shop there. We do soaps, lotions, shampoo, conditioner, cards, and some candy. It is stated that they must buy things following their dietary and medical guidelines. Like a right to refuse. It works really well we have actually started handing out the bucks to residents when they attend activities like an insentive program. It works really well. We have to remember as they revert back that we have to provide those things for them that they use to do and shopping is one of them!!! I am actually looking at getting some handbaskets donated so they can have a better sense of it!!! |

I have a Bingo Cart that I stock with lots of options to choose from. Toilet paper is a huge success as the residents have to provide their own, we are a Supportive Living Facility. Quarters are the second most popular pick. I'll list the rest of what I have on my cart, most of it comes from Wal-Mart...Diffrent types of soda, Orange pineapple juice drink, individual packs of Kleenex, Lever bar soap, miniature candy bars (I let them take 3 per win), sugar free candy bars (2 per win), notepads, emery boards, chapstick, crackers, paper towels, popcorn, Beanie Babies are a hit, wet wipes, seasonal items that I happen to have or find, crackerjacks, etc. For special bingo days, I buy dollar items at Dollar Tree. I know chips are a good prize but if they don't take them then they expire so it's hard to buy bulk perishable items. Also, I buy trail mixes, pretzel rods, marshmallows and pecans and bag them in snack bags. Those go over well. I keep this cart stocked at all times. |

We use tokens instead of Quarters each token is worth a quarter. Once a week we set up a bingo store allowing Residents to shop for items they would find in a store. They save there tokens to purschase wish list items from the store. Many organizations donate items for the store which makes it more fun a larger selection. |

We have alittle store on campus so i have coupons for it. I also just started a basket full of little candy bars, pocket kleenex, notepads, pens, crackers, gum, things like that. They get a better deal from the basket plus my store was loosing money cause of all the coupons so im trying to get away for it. |

we are also a small residental housing. For bingo prizes I go to the dollar store and pick up things they would normally have to purchase themselves, like body wash, kleenex, shampoo, mints, cookies or things they can hand on their doors. We only have bingo twice a month so it doesn't add up to too much and some of our volunteers and staff are always donating small items like jewellery. In total we only spend about $10-$15 a month on prizes and they love them. Hope this helps |
