Welcome
aboard! We would like to introduce you to our Front
Porch Travelers, Nell and Truman McGiver. They will
be frequent guests on Activity Connection, taking imaginary
trips and occasionally getting involved in other activities
on our site.
Here
is an introduction: brought to you by Nell
McGiver
Hello out there. It's Nell and Truman McGiver coming to
you from Polk County, Missouri. Since the summer of
1980, we've been traveling all over the world from
the comfort and safety of our very own front porch.
Back then, our youngest son had just moved out and
our two boys were well on their way to becoming the
responsible adults we always knew they could be. Truman
still had his hardware store to run and I was working
at the library three days a week. We had always longed
to travel but we didn't have the time or the money.
We decided if we were ever going to experience the
world we would need to take a different approach. That's
how our Front Porch Travels became a tradition that
we would like to share with you. Why don't you find
a comfortable seat and come along with us?
Every month, or so, we pick a destination - a country, state,
or city of interest and then find out everything we
can about it. (Truman is very fond of the Internet!)
When all is done, we invite our friends, Bert and Ethel
Davis and the Gunderson sisters, Mabel and Maude over
to enjoy the fruits of our labor. We eat native cuisine,
have lively discussions (led by yours truly), watch
a video and share any books we've found from or about
our chosen location. We all have such a grand time
and we're hoping you will too. Here's your chance to "see"
the world without any wear and tear or expense. Truman
and I appreciate this as he is now 75 and I'm 73 and
even though we now have the time, we sure don't have
the money.
To
introduce your residents to the McGivers, we have prepared
a SPECIAL FLYER. Idea: Designate
a corner of your bulletin board for this and other
special announcements from Nell and Truman. Soon everyone
will be onboard, following the adventures of the "Front
Porch Travelers." |
