Lunar Bingo

bingo lunar cardsIf you are "loony" about bingo, celebrate the anniversary of the first man on the moon (July 20, 1969) with a game of LUNAR bingo. It will be "out of this world!" Also, this is a great bingo game to play whenever there is a full moon.

Printing the cards

Begin by printing up to 36 different cards. For reusable cards, we suggest printing on heavy card stock paper. Print on regular paper for disposable cards (where the players use marking pens or bingo daubers to mark their cards).

The B-I-N-G-O across the tops of the cards has been replaced with L-U-N-A-R. In the center of each card is a "moon" free space. Also, there is a small "man in the moon" in the corner of one of the numbered squares on each card.

Playing the game

Use your standard bingo cage, masterboard and bingo balls. The caller selects a ball and announces the letter and number - substituting L for B, U for I, A for G and R for O. The N stays the same. Tip: Make yourself a cheat sheet for easy reference.

Game ideas

  1. Lucky Man in the Moon. Each card has a small crescent "man in the moon" in the corner of one square. There are several ways it can be used:
    • The first person to cover the square wins the game.
    • The winners get an extra or special prize if their bingo includes the "lucky moon."
    • The square can be an extra "free space."
    • Ask all the players to write their "lucky moon" number (i.e., L12) on a piece of paper. Draw a winner at the end of the game.
  2. Full Moon Free Space. If you are playing bingo on the day of a full moon, make the date an extra "free space." For example, July's full moon falls on July 29 this year. Therefore, U-29 would be another "free space."
  3. Don't Say Bingo! Ask the players to yell out MOON, BLUE MOON or MAN IN THE MOON instead of BINGO when they think they have a winning card. If they forget, they lose.
  4. Special Bingo Games. Instead of straight bingo, play games with the letters in MOON. The first person to make one of the letters wins.

For markers

bingo moon markersYou can use your usual bingo markers or click on the image and print a sheet of moons. Cut out along the dotted lines and your markers are ready. For heavier markers, copy to heavyweight paper (110 lb.) or card stock. Alternatively, glue your sheets to a piece of poster board (spray glue works best). Then, cut along the dotted lines using a sharp utility knife. You can even decoupage your makers to pieces of balsa wood to make permanent markers. (This can be a great project for your craft group.)

For prizes

Pass out MoonPies or Moon Rock Candy for prizes.
